Hi,
I got home yesterday from a course in Halifax, and Liz told me she had heard
a pair of Barred Owls calling from some woods close to our house (north of
Kentville). So we went over at dusk, and I successfully called in a single,
silent Barred Owl, twice. So this morning I went back, this time with
Bernard Forsythe, to see if we could find a nest. No luck, although we found
a roosting area, with "whitewash" and some pellets, on the ground. But we
did find an active Red-tail"s nest, which I will monitor over the next few
weeks. Also present were a F. N.Cardinal that flew out of a thick clump of
bushes and behaved as if a nest was nearby, + A Black-and-White Warbler,
several Yellow-rumps, and several Blue-headed Vireos.

At home we now have 2 active Robins nests with eggs.

Richard
