All: Nothing special at Hartlen Pt., but a pleasnt ramble. There were lots of sweet coltsfoot and a few open mayflowers, but the "pussy" willows were still encapsulated. Birds included a snging E. Pheobe and a more tuneful Fox Sparrow. There is always a bunch of robins on the marsh at "Back Cove" - about 12 today. Most were males, so it seems to be neutral feeding area. I am still struck by the number of purely white-winged Iceland Gulls lingering at the mouth of the hartbour. There wre six first-cycle birds at the harboursfde beach of Hartlen Pt., and an adult on the flats at Eastern Passage. It may be that these are "Kumlien's" bleached by the late winter and spring sun, rather than nominate Icekand gull from Greenland, but it's a problem to be solved. Do these northern gulls with limited melanin on primaries bleach more readily than ones with much more? Cheers, Ian
