All, Richard Mash joined me on my owl route north of Antigonish last night. We had woodcock on our first stop; a few wood frogs and some coyotes made up the remaining non-target animals. One very distant Saw-whet was calling. We then had a pair and two single Barred Owls. The pair of Barred Owls was spontaneously hooting, so I told Richard, "Just wait, one will fly in after the Barred Owl broadcast." Sure enough, towards the end of the two-minute silent period after the first Barred Owl broadcast, the owl came in low over the side of the road, then veered into the woods next to the vehicle. No nesting owls yet for me, though I haven't had a chance to check over half my boxes yet. Randy _________________________________ RF Lauff Way in the boonies of Antigonish County, NS.
