I found a male Common Yellowthroat in breeding plumage at Hartlen Point
today while searching through the shrubs around the other side of the
southern tip. The exact location is kind of hard to explain, but if you go
up to the tower you can find some deer trails that lead south to the beach
there are tonnes of shrubs. When I first saw it I was sort of hoping for the
Hooded Warbler, but unfortunately neither I nor Mike, who I had met up with
earlier, could find it. I also went to back cove with nothing to see except
for four Green-winged Teals (3M, 1F) which flushed before I could look at
them. I saw these same four teals yesterday and noticed that at least one of
them had a horizontal white streak and no vertical streak, but I forgot
which was which and didn't remember to check the book until now. It turns
out, I guess, that the one I saw was a Common Teal, and there may be more. I
should note that when they were flushed, they flew towards Cow Bay, so I'm
assuming they are the same ones as reported earlier.
