Hi all:

=20

Thank you Wayne for a great field trip on Saturday. On the way to this fie=
ld trip David Walmark and I saw what I know was an osprey near Wentzell's L=
ake on the way to New Germany. The bird disappeared over the trees before =
we could get stopped and I could get my binoculars on the bird.

=20

At Springfield=2C Lunenburg Co.=2C we saw a pileated woodpecker on top of a=
 telephone pole beside the road.

=20

Near Middleton=2C 45 evening grosbeaks and five red crossbills were a treat=
.

=20

Today a red-tailed hawk was having a real hard go of it. American crows we=
re first harassing it. Once the hawk was clear of crows=2C two herring gul=
ls started to call loudly and were dive bombing the hawk to the point of al=
most impact. The gulls were very persistent.

=20

The other nice sighting of note was a song sparrow in Lunenburg with an all=
white head and part of the chest. I tried to get photos=2C but my digital=
camera although the pic looked good in the viewfinder=2C would not photogr=
aph through the window of the house. I tried through a few different windo=
ws without success. When I opened the house door to get an unobstructed ph=
oto it flew. Ten song sparrows were feeding at once at the feeder where I =
am at in Lunenburg today.
