Birds of the Equinox is a project to document birdlife during the March 20 equinox. (That's this Friday!) At the March equinox, the sun appears to cross the equator as earth's northern hemisphere tips toward the sun. The North is warming and getting lighter; the South has begun to darken and cool. All over the planet, birds are in motion. Wherever you are on our glorious, dizzy little planet, stop for a moment and notice the birds of the equinox. Golden-cheeked Warblers returning to juniper-clad hills? Sacred Kingfishers evacuating to New Guinea? Let's paint a picture of this moment in time: Birds of the Equinox. Here's how to participate: 1. Find a time within 12 hours either side of the equinox. 2. Go birding. 3. Record your experiences and observations. 4. Tell us about it. Full details and instructions are available at http://birdstack.com/solar-birding/march-equinox-2009 It's going to be a lot of fun -- we hope you'll join in. Make sure that your part of the world is represented this week! For ideas and inspiration, check out some of the submissions from our last event, Birds of the Solstice: http://birdstack.com/solar-birding/december-solstice-2008 Thanks, and good birding!
