Hello all, As part of the Christmas bird count my role was to look for birds
at the Fairview dump and Seaview Park... My friend who was partnering
me was sure that he saw a Western Tanager. I wasn't swearing to
anything but the wing bars had two stripes and just maybe it was an
oriole.. That's why it didn't go into the bird count.
By the way anyone heading for the dump, you will find the gates locked
on the weekends.Heather Drope

Western Tanager is a candidate.BUT If the looks were not greator as you said it's a
novice Don't rule out those some times confusing Over wintering Oriols.

Hope this helps

Hello, hello...
Through a friend of a friend... they saw the Tanager in South End Hfx on
Sunday. However, they claim it had wing bars. Having not seen this
bird... is there anything about its winter colours that may make it look like
wing bars?! I know its been solidly identified as a Summer, so this could
just be a novices mistake. But... never hurts to ask.

Cheers for now, Ann M.
