Hi Eric,

If I am not fishing I will help with the xmas bird count. Either on land or
sea.

I have been busy fishing but try to take note of what I see. There is still
a Blue Heron here in the harbour. 2 pairs of Buffleheads. Long tailed ducks
are common now. Scoters, guillemots, Eiders, etc. There are still hundreds
and hundreds of gannets in and offshore.(Also lots of Murres, Puffins,
Razorbills, Kittiwakes, and a few Iceland and Glaucous gulls.) I have a
picture of gannets(one of many) that Jeanette Denton took with her camera. I
will scan and send to you. It was taken off southern point with Peters
Island in the background. Flocks of WW crossbills abound. Juncos. Etc. There
are still a few raptors around.

I was in Freeport today in this gale but had time to check out the Cove.
There are at least 20 bufflehead and I saw my first Northern Shoveler for
the area. I watched it for 20 minutes and stopped back on my way home and it
was still there. On school street near the picnic table there is a pull off,
an excellent place to view the birds in the Cove.

I'll try and keep in touch.

Carl
