Sat. Dec. 6, I birded Big I. Surprizingly I had more than 40 species. Here are some highlights Horned Grebe-14 Red-breasted Merganser-540 Red-throated Loon-6 Horned Lark-6 N. Pintail-2 N. Flicker-4 Myrtle Warbler-5 Black-bellied Plover-1 Canada Geese-800 White-winged Crossbill-30 Song Sparrow-10 Swamp Sparrow-1 Savannah Sparrow-1 Red-tailed Hawk- 2-3 Bonaparte's Gulls-33 Iceland Gull-1 I had not seen Red-tailed Hawks there all fall so it was interesting to have 3 encounters maybe 2-3 birds. I also heard Redpolls and Snow Buntings. The visibility was poor on the other side of Merigomish Harbour, but there were hundreds of gulls, geese and ducks but too hazy to ID. At Powells Pt PP there was a flock of about 500 Bonaparte's Gulls with 1 adult Black-headed Gull. There was alos the usual large flock of Red-breasted Mergansers. Sinclair's I had an imm. Black-headed Gull.
