--Boundary_(ID_4XOocv1K0eUqNCT0t+HHOQ) Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT DEC. 6, 2008 - At Windsor, just west of Curry's Corner (King St. & Hwy. 14), on a sunny mid-afternoon, the CANADA GEESE were close enough to Hwy. 14 to be inspected with binoculars (mostly). They were all feeding continuously (heads mostly down) on the short grass, like a lawn, in a large field/pasture. I agree with John Belbin's recent assessment of flock size, i.e. 600-700 geese. I carefully looked for Eric Mills' lone BLUE GOOSE, i.e. dark phase of the SNOW GOOSE, and I was successful in finding it. Like Eric said, this bird is quite large, about as large as most of the Canada Geese with it. What I first noticed about the Blue Goose was its white head, but then patience rewarded me with good scope views of the rest of the plumage. In the Windsor Sewage Ponds, nothing really remarkable, but, like John said, the 8 AMERICAN WIGEONS were easy to spot, especially the 3 males among them. Other ducks were 50+ black ducks and 6+ mallards. Later, on my way back to Wolfville, at 4:45 p.m., an impressive dense flock of many hundreds of CROWS (at least a thousand or more) were passing over Hwy. 101 toward the east over the top of the hill down to Avonport. Does anyone know where Valley crows are roosting these days?
