Hi all
Here are a couple of observations from Pictou Co.
A WESTERN TANAGER was seen Wed. Nov. 26 in the yard of Ann Young, Pictou between the Pictou Marina and the Pictou Shipyards. I just heard about this sighting Mon. morning and I failed to re-find it yesterday. I spoke with the observer and she has not seen it since her first sighting.

At Big I., Nov. 28, Steve and Amber Vines reported 3 Short-eared Owls hunting near the island end of the causeway. They also noted a dark-phase Rough-legged Hawk, 2 Flickers, and a Dunlin

Charlie and Judy Kendell observed one of the Short-eared Owls hunting with a male Northern Harrier near dusk on Nov. 30 on Big I.

On Dec.1, I observed ~ 80 Hooded Mergansers at the Haliburton Gut near the Pictou rotary. Only 3 Red-throated Loons remain at Waterside PP. There were about 400 Bonaparte's Gulls at Central Caribou and 2 Black-headed Gulls were observed with them. Two Purple Sandpipers remain at the Chance Harbour wharf area.
At the entrance to Pictou Harbour, I observed 19 Bald Eagles, all but one were sub-adults. I saw about 35 Bald Eagles in total between Caribou, Pictou and Chance Harbours.
Powell Pt. Park continues to have a large flock of Red-breasted Mergansers ~ 1400 birds with a substantial flock of Bonaparte's Gulls
cheers
Ken
