Hi All,

I posted yesterday on naturens about a juvenile Accipiter species that
Allison and I saw yesterday. After taking a look at my ID shots, Ian McLaren
and Eric Mills have confirmed my feelings that the bird is indeed a juvenile
Cooper's Hawk. My photos are not as good as Richard Stern's from 2 years
ago, but seem to be diagnostic at least. I have posted 4 tightly cropped id
shots:

Also I have made a map that you can access by clicking or copy-pasting the
following url:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=45.783387,-62.080436&spn=0.012959,0.025728&t=h&z=16&msid=118082951089515722918.00045c6ff95b3ac77161f

Malignant cove is accessible by traveling 20km north of Antigonish on the
245 via Hawthorne Street. The bird was seen perched in a snag about 150 m
after turning east on the 337, just past the little bridge over Malignant
Creek on the north side of the road. After this, it flew to a tree and
perched (so it seemed) on the south side of the road overlooking the creek.

I will post more "scenic" images of the bird today.

Bruce
