Hi there, My friend Jean Hartley, who is able to visit the Frog Pond in Fleming Park more frequently than I can, has found some interesting migrants there recently. On 4 November she saw a female Ruddy Duck, which is the first time I have heard of that species there. The following day, when she checked again, she found it had been joined by a Ring-necked Duck, a regular spring and fall visitor here. On 8 November, she found a Sora in the cattail marsh at the first boardwalk around the pond. Carol Klar came along in time to see it as well. I've been visiting this park for a number of years and have been compiling records of birds and plants there. While I'm sorry I missed seeing the Ruddy Duck and the Sora myself, I'm delighted to think that these less common birds also use this suburban park in migration. Cheers, Patricia L. Chalmers Halifax
