House Wren Etc, City Field Dump
Hi All, I arrived just before dawn at the City Field Dump and in the “just light enough to see silhouettes” phase of the morning the House Wren was belting out its song, in a last multiflora rose bush, on the left side of the road, at the extreme left-hand end of the road, just before it terminates at the container pier fence. When I pished, the wren immediately flew from the top of the bush and took off at least 400 meters to the right. Apparently he was really pished off at me. Later on, I saw it back near the container pier fence. I found 2 of the 7 Indigo Buntings, that Dad & I saw earlier in the week and only one of the Lark Sparrows. Also, present there today was an eastern Palm Warbler and the Yellow-billed Cuckoo. However, the best bird of the day was the turkey at my parent’s place. Between the dump and the Fairview Cemetery, Mike and I “dug up” 39 species. Thanks to Dave and Azor for taking the initiative and for willing to be
down in the dump. - All the Best in Birding, Clarence
