Dave, Ron, Billy, others:
I thought by now that you'd be eager to know the final resolution (we hope) to
Chocolate Lake's Great Ghost Rodent Mystery -- see the last
communication below
from Rob, whose mother lost three 5-inch willow trunks in a single munching,
leaving no doubt what must have been the culprit. Here in the metropolitan
concrete jungle we seldom manage to reach this level of excitment over
rodents,
so I felt I wanted to share this with you. According to correspondent Bill,
next clip, it has even happened before.
Thankyou to those who helped identify the owner of the tooth marks -- you all
guessed right.
Steve in Halifax

>> Steve,
>> It was several years ago now that Mike Larade, (a wildlife expert of
>> my acquaintance) captured a beaver out of Chocolate Lake and relocated
>> him (her). At that time, there were trees cut at the end of Crescent
>> Ave, and the tenants called the city. The city called Mike who removed
>> the beaver, and sent a bill. The Landlord ended up paying the bill.
>> When I last contacted Mike, his e-mail was <michaellarade@eastlink.ca>
>> Phone 868 1890. He removes beavers and other nuisances professionally.
>> I expect he is still at the same address.
>> Bill Marchant

> Hi Steve:
I was just talking this Sunday afternoon [5 Oct]to my mom's next door
> neighbours - Bob and Diane who live next to the public wharf and across from
> the pump station. They saw the beaver under their wharf on Thursday, saw
> the damage done to my mother's willow and called the department of Parks and
> forests (I believe). They came on Friday and had the beaver captured within
> a few hours. Apparently they take captured beavers to the Shubenacadie
> wildlife preserve. So it appears at least for now that the beaver is gone.
> Let's hope there aren't more. Thank you for all the investigative work you
> have done on this issue. Rob
