Hi All, It has been a very exciting day for me in Beaverbank. I awoke to find in my yard 30 Song Sparrows, 20 Savannahs, 6 White-throated Sparrows, a couple of Swamps, an immature White-crowned Sparrow, 1 Lincoln’s, 2 Common Yellowthroats, 1 Red-eyed Vireo, 1 Hermit Thrush, 1 Black-throated Green Warbler, along with my regular group of feeder birds. Later on a horde of Common Grackles descended driving most of the visitors off but brought with them 3 Red-winged Blackbirds bringing my yard list up to 20 species in two hours. I decided then to take a two minute walk to the end of my street to check out the weedy field & pond where migrants often stop. There I encountered at least 300 sparrows 246 of which I was able to identify.

They included:

120 Song Sparrows
65 Savannah Sparrows
45 Swamp Sparrows,
12 White-throated Sparrows
3 Lincoln’s Sparrows
1 White-crowned Sparrow

Also, present were 6 Common Yellowthroats, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 1 Belted Kingfisher, and 2 Ring-necked Ducks. Please note the weedy field is PRIVATE PROPERTY and due to past vandalism to buildings and equipment THE POLICE WILL BE CALLED if strangers are sighted inside the NO TRESPASSING area.

I have permission to bird in the field and plan to go back there this evening to see what else may be present, visitors are welcomed to join me. Parts of the field can be viewed from the adjacent sports field and the pond, called Duck Lake is located along the Beaverbank Road which provides an excellent location to view any waterfowl present. -All the Best in Birding, Clarence
