Over all this past week it has been exceptionally quiet here on our property in White Point. Monday, noonish, Steve saw a Hummingbird at the feeder as he came in the back door. That was it until yesterday about mid day when I was at the livingroom window and saw a hummingbird flitting about the center of the big Maple (Liverpool side of property) all the time climbing and suddenly up it went ......right out of sight. No more sounds or sight since. Last year it was this coming week that the last Ruby Throat left our feeders. Other than that we have a couple American Goldfinches, song sparrows three regulars, nicknamed the three amigos, (no sign of any other sparrows at all, highly unusual), a few Blue Jays. There are lots of Mourning Doves and Northern Flickers checking in and out. We have palm warblers and what I think is a Red Eyed Vireo. There have been a couple trees brought down and that changes the lay of the property and viewing with the binoc.s that I have. I hear the occasional chickadee but am not viewing them. There are both downy and hairy woodpeckers, but again after all the crush over the winter and well into this spring, it is eerily quiet. A few Chipmunks are visiting, vole numbers appear to be down (thankfully) and that is pretty much that. Marg Millard, White Point, Queens http://margmillard.ca
