Hi All, Here is a quick summary of the Canso Seabird Trip held on Saturday Sep 20. From a Canso standpoint we had a relatively quiet day for seabirds. Shearwater and petrel numbers were way down but on the plus side we did spot 21 jaegers. In total we observed 10 pelagic bird species. They were, in no particular order, : 1. Northern Gannet, 2. Black-legged Kittiwake, 3. Leach’s Storm Petrel, 4. Greater Shearwater, 5. Pomarine Jaeger, 6. Parasitic Jaeger, 7. Red Phalarope, 8. Red-necked Phalarope, 9. Northern Fulmar and 10. Sabine’s Gull. In typical Canso fashion at the Marina where we caught the boat there was a couple of interesting fall species present, a Lark Sparrow and 2 Indigo Buntings. Just past the marina on the Glasgow Head Road we also saw a Prairie Warbler. Tom Kavanaugh says there are often lots of seabirds still present in October and we are currently in the process of planning a second Canso Seabird Trip to take place this October
