Sept. 14, I explored the Northumberland shore from Waterside PP to Tidnish Dock PP. Most of these stops had a few Bonaparte's Gulls and Kingfishers. Teal seem to be on the move. Here are some of the more significant sightings. At Tidnish Dock there were 25+ Red-necked Grebe, 100+ Surf Scoter and 20 Common Terns. Linden had an astonishing 250 Blue-winged Teal at low tide. At high tide a few hours earlier, I saw only 9. There were 17 Hooded Mergansers, about 20 Green-winged Teal and 2 Bobolink. At Northport, the in-fill of the Salt Marsh was sprouting mushrooms I took to be Shaggy Manes , some gone off and some newly erupting through the sand. Wallace Bay had 55 Great Blue Heron. There were quite a few in Pugwash as well, but I forgot to record the number, but more than 12. River Philip area had 35 Great Blue Heron. At Sand Pt., a little flury had 14 species passing through a wooded area with 10 Ruby-crowned Kinglet and a couple of dozen Robins. In the DU pond there were 3 Pied-billed Grebe. At Brule I had the following shorebirds with a large group of several hundred Double-crested Cormorants at high tide. Greater Yellowlegs-3, Black-bellied Plover-55, Semipalmated Plover-37, Semipalmated Sandpiper-9 and Lesser Yellowlegs-1. There is a development on-going which I suspect to be a golf course extension which is very close to ( in fact bordering on or in) the salt marsh. River John had 15 Great Blue Heron, 60 Semipalmated Plover and 80 Green-winged Teal. Waterside PP had reduced numbers of shorebirds: Greater Yellowlegs-7 ( one dangling a leg as it flew) Sanderling-7 Semipalmated Sandpiper-13 Least Sandpiper-1 Semipalmated Plover-14 cheers Ken --Boundary_(ID_KvaYmcHxug98pG6VA4IAuw) Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <META content="MSHTML 6.00.6000.16705" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Ken McKenna<BR>Box 218 Stellarton NS<BR>B0K 1S0<BR>902 752-7644<BR>Hi all</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>On Sun.
