Hi,

We were entertaining a visitor from the UK (a butterfly enthusiast) for the
past few days and one of the locations we visited were the trails and
boardwalks around Spectacle Lake in Burnside Business Park. Although we saw
no butterflies we were able to introduce him to some typical flora of the
bogs in NS.

We accessed the trails at the end of Garland Ave, after having driven by a
lot of construction (destruction?) vehicles where Garland makes a 90-degree
turn. At least one of the trails is closed due to construction activities.

We enjoy visiting these trails and do so whenever we are in Burnside since
Mike King alerted us to their existence a couple of years ago. I wonder if
anyone on this list knows what is going on in this area and whether the
parkland itself is in peril?

We did see one Osprey standing on the nest and calling almost constantly
while we were there as well as a Peregrine Falcon (a young bird) near the
Lake. No wonder we saw so few passerines!

Cheers,

Bob McDonald
