The=A0September meeting of the Halifax Centre of the RASC (Royal =20
Astronomical Society of Canada) will be held Friday,=A0September 19th at =
=20
8:00 PM in Room 260 of the Sobey Building at Saint Mary's University =20
(PLEASE NOTE the new room location -- the Sobey Building is adjacent to =20=

the Loyola Building).

(A map can be found at the Centre's web site =96 the new location is in =20=

building #2; see below.)

Members of the public are welcome. Attendance is free.

The September meeting features presentations by the Halifax Centre =20
International Year of Astronomy planning committee:

In 1609, Galileo became the first person to use a telescope to make =20
scientific observations of the heavens.=A0 To celebrate the 300th =20
anniversary of this event the global astronomical community has =20
designated 2009 as "International Year of Astronomy". IYA is an =20
opportunity for the astronomical community to bring astronomy to the =20
general public and raise awareness of both the joys and problems of our =20=

hobby.

At the September meeting of the Halifax Centre of the RASC members of =20=

the local IYA committee will outline local plans for 2009. It will be a =20=

great opportunity to find out what is planned, make suggestions, and =20
even offer support.

Also, if you have astro-photos from the summer you would like to share =20=

please bring them (on a laptop, memory stick, cd/dvd or email =20
halifax@rasc.ca).
