Hi all
It was a surprisingly nice morning in Pictou Co. and not what I was expecting with the forecast. I spent the morning in the Waterside and Caribou I. area. Here are some of the highlights:
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT HERON: Waterside between Caribou River bridge and turnoff to Big I. and off Arrowhead Crescent- an immature bird standing close to casual water on a lawn.

WATERSIDE PP (34 species) Whimbrel-4 Greater Yellowlegs-3, Semipalmated Sandpiper-12 Least Sandpiper-1, Pectoral Sandpiper-7, Semipalmated Plover-11 Sanderling-4, Black-bellied Plover-2
Bobolink-3, Common Tern-13, Bonaparte's Gull-130, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow-1, Blue-winged Teal-5
There was a fairly fresh dead adult Gannet on the shore.

Caribou I. (37 species) Ruddy Turnstone-4, Greater Yellowlegs-2, Semipalmated Plover-6, Black-bellied Plover-4, Sanderling-3, Bonaparte's Gull-260
There were 20 Common Terns on the bar by the lighthouse and ~ 120 likely terns in the channel between the Caribou Ferry terminal feeding with a large flock of Double-crested Cormorants. These could have been small gulls, but my feeling was terns but they were distant. There were a couple of handfulls of Gannets feeding or sitting off the lighthouse point. A couple of stops heading between Waterside and the Caribou I lighthouse produced 7 warbler species- Parula-5, Magnolia-5, Black& White-5, Blackpoll-1, Blackburnian-2, Black-throated green-3, Myrtle-15. At least 9 Flickers were noted in this area.

cheers
Ken
