10 p.m. Wednesday: For some reason the Wood Turtle report I sent this morning did not get through, so I'll give it another try. ************** This report is on behalf of a friend who lives nearby: He observed a turtle crossing the paved highway (North Grand Pre Dyke Road). When he stopped to investigate he discovered that it was a WOOD TURTLE. I also, had a look at it and agree that it is indeed a Wood Turtle (a really nice little fellow, and appears to be in very good health). His, (not knowing the sex, I suppose that I should say) "its" shell is about 9 cm wide and about 13 cm long. I have only seen one Wood Turtle in the wild (that was in the Pugwash Junction area of Cumberland Co, about 5 or 6 years ago). The one observed yesterday (Sept 2) is the first I've seen in this part of N.S. Can I conclude that for Nova Scotia, infrequent sightings like this are typical for this species? Are the sighting details of interest to anyone? Sherman
