I started birding when I was 13. I still only know about 2 people my age who
are birders. I learned from Paul Pratt and Tom Hince at Point Pelee, and
they were key to keeping me interested and enthusiastic. They were always
supportive (especially when grilled on a rock wren i had just found at point
pelee and had announced to a large skeptical group including birders from
michigan and ontario), and later when a boreal owl turned up in my backyard.
This was when i was 14 and 15 years old!! Some might have ignored, but they
made sure to check out what I was seeing, and always trusted my sightings.

Still hoping to run into my 13-year old prodige in the field some day!
