Hi all

I contacted the Provincial (Shubenacadie) Wildlife Park via email to find
out more about the Sandhill Crane, which was sighted by one staff member on
July 28, 2008. The staff investigated and determined it was a Great Blue
heron, not Sandhill Crane. It was perching on a tree, something a Sandhill
Crane neither can or nor will. Herons do stretch its neck out during and
shortly after take off. Once in full flight, its neck is "tucked in".
Nevertheless, I hope a Sandhill Crane will show up somewhere in Nova Scotia
soon like it does every year!

Cheers,
Liz
