I too have noticed an increase in activity at my hummer feeder. I also planted bee balm this year just outside my patio door....I can't get over how much the hummers LOVE it, and how much more opportunity I have to watch these little jewels.
Anyway, I have the customary male & female, but just discovered this morning that I have 2 juveniles, a male and a female I think. I wondered if you were able to see the juvenile male's iridescent red, which I clearly saw while he was preening on a nearby tree for a good 10 minutes. The reason I believe they are both juveniles is that their take-off's and landings are less than graceful, and while they sit and preen in clear site they seem a bit unsure of their surroundings, constantly flapping their wings, as they would for their mother when she feeds.
