On July 17 I paddled out to Stovepipe Island on Gaspereau Lake
(Kings Co., on Rt 12) to check the eagle nest (seen on March 24,
May 19, July 5). At least 2 of the 3 eaglets can now fly!

Approaching the site, I saw an adult eagle and 2 eaglets perched on a
tree on a smaller island about 300 m from the nest and one eaglet on
the nest. The adult flew away. After a while the eaglets flew back to
the nest, but took off, circled and landed several times. The 3rd
eaglet just sat on the nest.

Later from across the bay, I saw the adult flying around the nest area.

I could see and hear a lot of gulls on rocks out in the middle of the
lake.
I saw a small flock (~20) of small shorebirds. There
were several very noisy kingfishers along the shore.

The water level of the lake hasn't changed since May. Last year
the water level was lowered considerably in late summer for re-building of
dikes along Rt 12.
