Jeff Ogden has been done a lot of collecting of insects on Brier
Island, but to date, the only member of the Lampyridae (the fireflies)
that has been recorded there is the non-luminescent Ellychnia
corrusca. There are, however, eight species of luminescent fireflies
in Nova Scotia which could plausibly occur on Brier Island. If you get
an opportunity to collect one of these it would be very interesting to
determine which species it is. We have (to date) recorded 152 species
of beetles on Brier Island, and I'm sure the tally is as yet far from
complete!

All the best,

Chris
