Hi Everyone
Just got back from camping at Keji with the GOMI (Gulf of Maine) youth team
and we had an enjoyable time going out to monitor blanding's turtles nest.
Jesse my son actually seen a blanding's turtle digging out her nest and
laying eggs. This requires alot of patients because it takes a long time and
the bugs can sometimes be brutal but our team was excellent. Sue and Norm
had a tracking device on some of the turtles and we were trying to find one
named Marnie who people had seen trying to nest near a playground. OUr team
sighted Cinderella but she started to dig out her nest but there was to many
rocks so see decided to give it up and returned to the water. We also helped
fill out the data cards on the nesting sights and if we sighted turtles we
had to put down if they were successful laying or not or if they went back
to water.
We also sighted:
Painted Turtle
Deer
Luna Moth
Bittern
Osprey
Red-winged Blackbirds
Lots of frogs
We also sighted on side of the road on our way out of Keji a snapping
turtle.
