Not at all common, Eleanor, but it does occur during migration.  I have 
seen  it in Barrington, on CSI,  and Bon Portage Island more than once. 
I presume this one to be an adult male? 
Does anyone know if this was the red bird used in the Joffre film "A- 
The Scarlet Letter" ?
