Hi Gerald,                May 31, 2008
    Taking a few shots from the hip and assuming adult form in upland
habitats --
    For maximum numbers of individuals year-round I would suspect ants
(As the popular Japanese joke goes, "There was one ant").
    For maximum numbers of individuals within restriced time periods;
Diptera (flies).
    For maximum mass within restricted time periods; Lepidoptera (Moths
& Butterflies).
