A pair of White-crowned Sparrows joined the ever-growing flock at my feeder yesterday morning. As I watched them, I noticed that one had pale lores. I had my camera, but was only able to get pictures of the other White-crowned, which can be seen here: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/26123378@N03/> I'm sorry I didn't get pictures of the pale-lored one, but it wasn't very cooperative. I didn't realize there was anything unusual about it until looking at my Sibley later in the day. Though not very familiar with these sparrows, I think it was of the West Taiga population. The lores were definitely pale, the body was more grey than brown, and the bill looked pinkish (not yellow). How often do White-crowneds from that population show up here? I've been watching the feeders very closely today, but there's been no sign of either White-crowned amongst the very damp sparrows.
