Hi Steve - C.12gutatta is a very likely and common species in NS . It is
found in a variety of habitats. I have seen it as early as April 13 th in
NS. I also saw C. 6gutatta and 12gutatta in abundance 2 weeks ago in Mt
Uniacke .
Another species flying now which has thicker maculations and a very
distictive pattern on the elytra is C.tranqueberica.

Hi Chris, Angus: while looking for something else, I found a lot of tiger
beetles out today on rocks up above the tide line, along the shore. Overall
brown with some metallic green specks (and metallic green undersides), but
under magnification has very distinctive creamy markings on elytra, closely
matching _Cicindela duodecimguttata_ on Bugguide.net. Nothing like Angus'
pic.
Is _C. duodecimguttata_ a likely or common species in N.S. at this date?

    This is Bombylius major.

A species of Tiger Beetle have been around our property for a few
days:

And this is indeed Cicindela sexguttata. It's the only brilliant green
species found in the region (although some individuals can have blue or even
bronze highlights,

    Cheers!
