Hi,

I was stuck at home on call while others were field-tripping on CSI,
canoeing on Cloud Lake, and hunting Magpies. However, I was able to enjoy
the heat and sun, help Liz with the garden, and wander around some local
birding spots as well. I saw several Bald Eagles, including 1 sub-adult
heading SE over Middle Dyke, towards New Minas, carrying a stick that was
almost as large as itself. There were several Yellow-Rumped Warblers and a
pair of Chipping Sparrows singing on territory at the Research Station. At
home we now have a Robin nesting under the arbor in the vegetable garden, a
pair of Mallards that are probably nesting by the pond, Killdeer that are
flying around overhead and calling constantly, the male Cardinal that sings
loudly around our property, but always flies off as soon as it sees me with
a camera, and numerous Grackles (at least one of which is behaving as if
there's a nest close by) and Redwings + a pair of Cowbirds and numerous
Mourning Doves. We put up a Tree Swallow box, but so far the swooping
swallows have not used it.

Also this morning I talked to the owner of the farm near Starrs Point where
there is an active Red-tail's nest, and she tells me that she can hear
chicks peeping, and has seen the adults bringing food. She allowed me onto
the property to take pictures before the leaves come out and make it likely
invisible. On the way home there was pair of Kingfishers interacting at the
edge of the New Minas DU pond, and a Canada Goose that looked as if it was
sitting on a nest on the island in the middle, but I still can't be sure.

All good atlassing and photography stuff!.
