As I passed by the Pictou Causeway this afternoon about 5:00, I noted 8 BONAPARTE'S GULLS feeding on the harbour side of the spillway. All but one were decked out in hooded garb. There are still a few GREATER SCAUP(~20) and COMMON GOLDENEYE (30-40) in the West River of Pictou. A few Scaup (3) were also seen along the causeway. Although Greater Yellowlegs have been around for about a week now, I heard a couple from my yard. These birds may be heading upstream on the East River where a few have been found in breeding territory along bogs near lakes in the first couple of years of the Breeding Bird Atlas Project. I still have 1-2 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS at my feeder in Plymouth and I heard a small flock of REDPOLLS in the Four Mile Brook area of Pictou Co.
