The calling should be very enthusiastic and nearly continuous, and you will be the only people out looking and listening. Also watch for migrant salamanders, peepers, wood frogs, leopard frogs, early toads, etc., and in the water also look for yellow-spotted (and/or blue-spotted) salamanders plus red-spotted newts, etc. And on such nights twice I have found amorous wood frogs clasped to yellow-spotted salamanders (for at least many minutes without letting go)!
