Checked out one of my Atlas squares yesterday afternoon.
Tupper Lake (S. of Coldbrook)
<x-tab> </x-tab>- 1
pair Common Goldeneye. The male had part of the black spur (ala Barrow's)
down from the bend of the wing but split from the back. The white marking
on the face was elongated (i.e. oval rather than a crescent). It appeared
to be a Common in all other aspects. One pair of Canada Geese is a good
possibility for nesting. Three Ring-necked Ducks (one fem.) & a few
Blacks scattered around the lake.
Aylesford Lake/McGee Lake
<x-tab> </x-tab>- an
animal, either a Fisher or Mink, ran across the road east of McGee Lake.
At first I thought it was a Fisher since I could see no light markings
and when it came to the ditch, it leapt across rather than follow the
ground. It was also heading towards an upland area, odd habitat for a
Mink. Still the length of the animal suggested a Mink.
<x-tab> </x-tab>- a pair
of Hooded Mergansers on McGee Lake. I don't have this species nesting in
either of my squares so far.
<x-tab> </x-tab>- A Canada
Goose was on a small island not far from the road. A perfect nesting
locale & perhaps the female was already on a nest (the island has a
lot of scrub on it).

Lots of moths, spiders (all black) & flies active but I could not get
any pics.

Today in our backyard three Fox Sparrows showed up, the first of the
year. Being inland we're lucky to get one in the Spring. All three
ignored the ground feeder & found lots to eat in the flower beds
which were recently raked of leaves. The M. Doves find these beds
enticing too. In the afternoon one of the Fox Sparrows sang for some
time.
