Participation is easy, just contact your provincial coordinator and get assigned a territory to walk, feeders to watch or owl routes to listen on. If your county has no coordinator or if you don't know if there is a coordinator then just send your tally directly to me and I will include it or send it on to your county coordinator. International Migratory Birds Day, http://www.birdday.org is also celebrated on this date in many jurisdictions. The Nova Scotia Migration Count Website is http://www.hanstoom.com/NAMC/Index.html and provides everything you'll need to participate in this year's count, including county and individual checklists. All checklists have been simplified this year with some of the less useful data collection fields removed altogether. Individual birders and small groups will likely find the online reporting system the most convenient: Use online form http://www.hanstoom.com/Report.html to submit individual or small group reports of regular, feeder and night-time observations. Feeder watchers can use the simplified form http://www.hanstoom.com/Feeder.html, and as always, reports can also be mailed. Currently we have 292 species from our many counts. I will be seeking the expertise and concurrence of others to ensure that this list of 292 species is correct. Sometime in the next few years, or even possibly this year if an unusual weather event happens, we will tick our 300th bird. The next eight birds will all be rare or new to our province so use the rare bird report or its hardcopy equivalent to submit your record.
