Index of Subjects The birds I start to look for as signs of spring are almost all here, now. This past couple days we have our resident robins back, and repairing nests, the red-winged blackbird in the swamp has been holding forth, although whether or not it went down to the hawk chasing it through my yard I can't say, yet. There is a Northern Flicker sounding somewhere close by and now the fox sparrows have arrived. Missing so far are my White crowned sparrows but I haven't given up on them as it is about this time normally when they show up. By my calculations I will have to get my hummingbird feeders out fairly soon and see if I don't pick up a few of the early birds passing by. Seems cold and early but a number of years I was seeing them by mid April (last year was an exception when we didn't have any noted until well into May) and it seems they are moving through the eastern states a bit earlier than usual. Snow drops are blooming well and the croci are opening up as only they can, strangled in the weeds of a neglected, overgrown bed. A few tulips leaves are pushing through as well. Truly, spring is well underway here. Marg Millard, White Point, Queens http://margmillard.ca
