John Belbin's pics of the Great Egret add a little colour (literally) to show
that it is coming into breeding condition (also hinted at by the developing
plumes in other pics). Note that its bill is becoming rather rich yellow with a
tint of orange, and that it is developng a bit of darkness along the culmen;
these are signs of spring.

Not much can be added to the summary of status in the Tufts (as linked on
Sherman Williams' website). Late March and early April birds have been fairly
routine, but there has been one earlier bird (given vaguely in "NS Birds" as
"through March" at Pubnico in 1989. Then of course one stayed until early
February in 1996. They're tough birds!
