Hello All, On Monday of this week, I was kicksledding on Long Lake (HRM Provincial Park). The ice surface was fantastic, along with the day. Shortly before leaving the ice at about 5:30pm, I heard frantic tapping in a near by tree. Of course no binoculars or camera at hand, and with the dimming light it was difficult to fully appreciate the highlight of the day. It was the first time I had ever seen a Black Backed Woodpecker. The woodpecker was really very busy and took no interest what so ever that I was less than a meter away. Also, on that days outing I observed one Immature Bald Eagle and a Mature Bald Eagle soaring over Withrod Lake, against a beautiful blue sky!
