Hi there,

Last week's message flushed out a few new species of
birds. Thanks to those who reported Razorbill, Gray Partridge and
Tufted Duck. This is a smaller list than last year (151 species),
but then the provincial list for the entire winter, maintained by
Blake Maybank, is also smaller (190 versus 205). In both years, just
under 75% of the bird species detected in Nova Scotia during the
winter are still to be found in February.

Many thanks to all who have indulged my curiosity by
contributing sightings for this survey of diversity during the
doldrums of winter!

         Cheers,

         Patricia L. Chalmers
