Not that we will see it but some penguins might. I just thought you would
enjoy knowing that such an event is taking place.

At about 11:31p.m.AST, the New Moon will be centred on the Sun for about
two minutes, in alignment between Antarctica and the Sun, New Zealanders
will see about 60 percent of the Sun covered by the Moon. This link  will
give you a page of info with a google map showing the track relative to
Antarctica.  If it is not highlighted, then copy and paste into the URL
window.

This event announces the Total Lunar Eclipse that will follow in 2 weeks
time, on the February Full Moon.  We will see that one the night of
FEBRUARY 20th    More on that later.
