Hi Sherman
Thanks again. The shuttle appeared right over my house and I observed it for probably a couple of minutes till about 6:22. I saw the crescent moon and Venus and Jupiter this morning just before day break. Nice!
I have a question that you can probably answer. Just east of the track of the shuttle tonight there are 3 bright objects. There is one at about 1:00 that is red, a second also red at about 3:00 and one at 5:00 that is red, green and yellow. I first thought the latter must have been a plane, but it does not appear to be moving ( relatively speaking). Can you figure out what I am describing?
cheers
Ken

If there is an appropriate sky about 6:15 this evening (Feb 3rd), the Space Station makes a nice high pass. It will be near overhead at 6:20 p.m. For Avonport it will pass just north of overhead. Here is a link showing its track in our region. http://www.heavens-above.com/gtrack.asp?date=39481.9309291491&lat=45.100&lng=-64.250&alt=54&loc=Avonport&TZ=AST&satid=25544

03 Feb click on this for its track in the sky
-2.2 mag (brightness: this is bright)
18:17:44 it will appear shortly after
  WSW: direction it comes from
  18:20:32 time of max altitude
68 degrees: altitude of max of track.
  NNW: direction of max alt.
  18:22:45 time it disappears
15 degrees: height when it disappears
NE: direction in which it disappears.

These details are specific to Avonport, they can be refined a bit closer for you, if you choose one of these locations nearest you

PS A shuttle mission is scheduled to launch to the ISS Feb 7th.
