Thursday, February 7, 2008, 7:30, Halifax Field Naturalists talk, Museum of Natural History, Summer St. -

Jamaican Adventures: From 2003 until 2006 Joan Czapalay was fortunate to be an instructor of Elementary School principals in Jamaica. She had seven work visits to three teacher's colleges, and when off work explored a lot of the countryside, especially the Blue Mountains in the north east, and the south-western desert in the parish of St. Elizabeth. The birds, plants, and small creatures were a delight, from Northern Potoo to Night Blooming Cereus to Jamaican Giant Swallowtail. Her visits were in March, July, August, and October. She loved the people of the island, the climate was ideal (most of the time), and the Jamaican food was delicious. She experienced a hurricane, a flood, and an "incident" between police and townsfolk. She has some wonderful pictures and a few stories to share.
