Hi,

4 "Valley Boys" ignored the Eagle watch today and headed to the Lunenburg
area. Actually the best bird of the day was before we left, as while I was
waiting for Bernard and Luke to pick me up, a N.MOCKINGBIRD appeared at our
feeder, and stayed just long enough for them to see it. In Lunenburg Co.,
all fresh water and a lot of salt water was frozen, leaving many of the
usual good spots bird-less. We saw about half a dozen HOODED MERGANSERS with
1 F. COMMON MERGANSER at the fish hatchery near Mader's Cove, and the usual
complement of C.LOONS, C.EIDERS, R-B. MERGANSERS etc. on the ocean. There
were a lot of C.GOLDENEYE, with 1 M. BARROW'S in Lunenburg Harbor, and
another 2 with the Commons and the large number of GR.SCAUP (1+ LESSER) at
Bayport. Also in Lunenburg Harbor were at least 1 dozen BLACK GUILLEMOTS and
a M. N.PINTAIL. We had 1 SHARPIE, 1IMM. BALD EAGLE, 1 RED-TAIL, and a
tantalizingly brief glimpse of something that might have been a PINE WARBLER
but we couldn't re-locate it. We were hoping to find Boreal Chickadees, Gray
Jays or Crossbills, but the woods seemed very quiet. On arrival home a
M.N.CARDINAL was at our feeder.
