In my early days of birdwatching, I enlisted the assistance of Fulton
Lavender and it was not uncommon to get 10 lifers in one day. In later
years, Fulton was not able to keep up with this level so I had to let him
go.

I then began to bird alone. Surely I could do just as well on my own. Now,
not only do I not get many lifers, but I can't even find birds reported by
others that should be relatively easy. Take today for example. I checked
out all of the open water in Oakland but didn't find James' Belted
Kingfisher. The one reported in Port Clyde did not make an appearance
either.

You would think that finding Brant on CSI would be an easy thing...not!
Lots of Canada Geese but no Brant. Murray's Dovekie at Daniel's Head had
flown the coop. After 600 km of driving I had nothing to show for it

In recent days I have stood for hours at Jean Hartley's feeders without
seeing a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. I have visited Marion Fulton's house in
Hantsport twice and no Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. I have checked out
Martinique Beach and Rainbow Haven for Yellow-rumped Warblers with no luck.
I have stared at the top of apartment buildings near Sullivan's Pond and no
Peregrine. And all of the Golden-crowned Kinglets must have died.

I guess the only solution is to swallow my pride, get down on bended knee,
and ask Fulton to help me again. I'd even make him cheese whiz and olive
sandwiches.
