  --Hi Luke
  Is the whole list of wanted birds there or just the first part. I note =
no passerines on your list. One never knows what might show up as road =
kill. You might note you probably have an Ivory Gull specimen in your =
collection at Acadia U. During the winter of 1998, Harry and Jean =
Brennan noted a dead bird on a trip through the Trafalgar area of =
Pictou Co. just north of the Pictou Co. line. They had driven by it and =
being the great naturalists they are, turned around and much to their =
surprise the specimen was an adult Ivory Gull in pretty good shape. Who =
would ever think such a bird would show up in the interior of the =
province! How was it killed? There were overhead power lines near-by =
and this might have contributed to the demise of the bird during stormy =
weather. The lesson- check out road-kill! As far as I know, this is =
our only Pictou Co. Ivory Gull record.=20
  cheers
  Ken

  Subject: [NatureNS] A call for bird specimens

  Hello all,
  =20
  I hope this subject is within what is accepted in both these lists, my =
appologies if it is not. Acadia University is in need of bird =
specimens. With our new facilities being completed as we speak, there =
will be a brand new state of the art collections room that will house =
the Acadia collection, hopefully as of this spring. I would like to be =
able to enhance the collection over the next couple years with some new =
specimens of birds we do not have good series of or we are lacking =
completely. Acadia has a salvage permit, so we can obtain birds =
legally, but cannot actively collect them. Below is a list of birds we =
are interested in and then some that we definitely do not want. If you =
have any of the birds on our "want" list we would be delighted to have =
them. If you have birds that are not on either list could you e-mail me =
with a list of what you do have that would be wonderfull, and I'll get =
back in touch with you if we are interested in any of them. You can =
contact me at nebulosa200ATgmail.com with any questions or if you have =
birds stored away in the freezer that we may be interested in.
  =20
  Here is our "wanted" list (many of these species are unlikely as =
window or road kills, but it's worth a try!), birds in bold are those =
for which we have no specimens of, the rest are ones of which we either =
have very poor or very few specimens:

        Brant

      =20
        American Black Duck=20
        Eurasian Wigeon=20
        Gadwall=20
        Harlequin Duck=20
        Surf Scoter=20
        Barrow's Goldeneye=20
        Hooded Merganser=20
        Bufflehead=20
        Manx Shearwater=20
        CORY'S SHEARWATER=20
        Great Cormorant=20
        Northern Gannet=20
        Broad-winged Hawk=20
        PEREGRINE FALCON=20
        GYRFALCON=20
        AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER=20
        Ruddy Turnstone=20
        Semipalmated Sandpiper=20
        Least Sandpiper=20
        BLACK-HEADED GULL=20
        Boneparte's Gull=20
        GREAT SKUA=20
        LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL=20
        LITTLE GULL=20
        LAUGHING GULL=20
        Sora=20
        Killdeer=20
        Lesser Yellowlegs=20
        Whimbrel=20
        Razorbill=20
        Morning Dove=20

  =20
  Birds we at not interested in are introduced species such as:
  European Starling
  Rock Pigeon
  House Sparrow
  =20
  Again, if you have any specimens (included or not in above list) could =
you please e-mail me a list of what is in your freezer and we can make =
arangements for pickup.
  =20
  Thanks for considering this request,
  Luke DeCicco
