17 January 2009

I managed to get out for an hour on Thursday, 17 January, and visited
Shag End, a favourite part of my local patch. The light winds
allowed an easier search of the waters of Shad Bay, and highlights
included 10 Harlequin Ducks, 1 Dovekie, 1 Red-necked Grebe, and 8
Hooded Mergansers. Five of the mergansers were male, and they were
full courting madness, trying to impress the ladies.

Good winter birding,
