Hi All; Given the weather forecast I didn't with to roam far from home, and thought that if I went north I'd have a little more time to bird before the storm hit. The Shubenacadie CBC fit the bill. The snow arrived at Lantz at 1430, so I bolted straight home at that time, but I managed 8 hours in the field. The Shubenacadie CBC has few observers (doesn't help that it is on the same day as the Halifax count) so I thought I'd help. I had no idea if the count would be interesting or not, but it was. The woods were very quiet, with almost all the action at feeders and in the messier farmyards (too many neat farmyards in the area). I haven't heard the results from the rest of the circle, but my own highlights included Great Horned Owl, Chipping Sparrow, Pine Warbler, and Rusty Blackbird. Nice to see lots of Evening Grosbeaks, as well as numerous Horned Larks. Tons of Mourning Doves and Blue Jays. And starlings. Also House Sparrows. A fun count.
